I am pleased to welcome you to my Gallery and I hope that you enjoy your visit.
I am known in Internet Art Forums as 'pierre', a name given to me in my local French Conversation Classes. It was also influenced by my interest in painting scenes of the French countryside, which my wife and I have visited many times over the years.
Interested in art as a young boy, I was inspired and encouraged by my Father, Eric R. Farrow, who was an accomplished watercolourist.
My career has been involved in Sales & Marketing Management within the U.K. Food Manufacturing Industry, which gave me much scope to develop my art in product label design, marketing and sales promotion including National & International Food Exhibitions. For 10 years before my retirement, I ran my own Sales & Marketing Agency working in the U.K. on behalf of various U.K. and European Food Manufacturers.
During the 1970's, I attended many evening art courses studying the essentials of drawing, sketchiing and oil painting. It was at this time that my elderly Art Tutor remarked that my oil paintings were more like watercolours! Due to career pressures and other interests, I did not paint again until my retirement in 2001, when I decided to take my elderly Art Tutor's advice and study watercolour painting at various workshops and courses.
In 2004, I combined my interest in digital photography by composing my paintings from my own photographs. In this respect, I much prefer working from my own photographs rather than a client's in that having actually visited the scene that I am painting assists me in conveying my impression of the place and atmosphere to my work. Since I am usually carrying my digital camera wherever I go, I tend to take photographs of many different subjects which I consider suitable for painting. This often takes me into new areas requiring additional research of a subject in order to portray the subject to the best of my ability.
Living near to an estuary and marine lake, I enjoy painting scenes of sailing craft in addition to sea and landscapes of my local area. I sold two paintings last year to owners of sailing boats whose boats were featured in my paintings. For this reason, my style, based on my own digital photographs, tends to be realistic yet I like to use artistic licence to move subjects and change the weather conditions where necessary in order to improve a composition.
